Shiitake & Turmeric Tea

Whilst at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim this year, I noticed a lot of tea companies beginning to capitalize on the medicinal benefits of mushrooms, particularly the Shiitake. Luckily for us, Shiitake-turmeric Tea is easy enough for us to make at home, plus the addition of black pepper to the tea will help increase the bioavailability of medicinal properties from the turmeric as well!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 shiitake mushroom caps
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • pinch of sea salt
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric powder (or grated fresh turmeric)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Soak four dry or fresh mushrooms for an hour in four cups of water.
  2. Slice the shiitake and bring the mushrooms with the soaking water and a pinch of sea salt to boil. Simmer for 25 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced by half.
  3. Stir in 2 teaspoons of turmeric and a pinch of black pepper until fully dissolved, about 1-2 minutes. Serve hot.
