It’s time to curb your sugar cravings. When we eat free sugars, including highly processed starches, it signals our pancreas to produce more insulin, shuttling sugars into our body cells and tissues.

But as we know, what goes up must come down; and when insulin spikes are high, we hit really low-lows, compelling us to grab a quick fix again; this keeps us locked in a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs. If we do this enough, it may increase our fasting blood glucose and decrease our insulin sensitivity,1, 2 which means our cells can become resistant or desensitized by insulin’s effects. This leads to more cravings, and over time, may lead to metabolic disorders, like Type 2 diabetes. Instead, why don’t we have smoother rides?
